Nurturing the Leader in Every Child

Children can be leaders! Here are our kindergarten pupils in action for their activity, “Being a Leader”, which is what they are learning in their subject “Leader in Me”. Teacher Angel’s young pupils are learning the basic principles of leadership such as self-reliance, discipline, responsibility, initiative, service, helpfulness, and perseverance. In Marywoods, we believe that every child has the capacity to develop leadership skills. And, because leadership development is a lifelong process, it ought to begin in children’s formative years. When we intentionally enhance leadership skills in young children, we let them experience the positive effects of having control of their lives and being able to accomplish things. After all, leadership begins with leading and directing oneself for good so that others may be inspired to follow. Thanks to our Marywoods Academy parents for being our partners in forming our young leaders!

Guiding Students Through Assessment

“Learners need feedback more than they need endless teaching.” (J. Dewey) And, teaching is not simply about instruction but a response to students’ learning, with assessment as a way to improve the learners’ understanding. This is why the aim of assessment is not to judge, but to guide students in their learning process. Congratulations to our students for persevering through our first online quarter examinations! In this new mode of online distance learning, many things are outside of our control such as internet connection and electricity. But, the most important things are within our control – our mental fortitude, commitment, perseverance, and cooperation. Thanks to the united support of parents and teachers, our children were able to go the distance. There is no obstacle too great nor challenge too difficult when we work together and encourage one another.
